Traffic Control Dispatcher (Scheduling & Coordination)

Buckley Cable Construction is hiring a Traffic Control Dispatcher.

Before any of our construction crews can start work, the road has to be protected. Flaggers, police details, lane closures. You are the person who makes that happen.

You will work with our schedulers to figure out what each job site needs, order coverage from our flagging vendors and local police departments, and handle the changes that come up once crews are already in the field.

Buckley operates across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and Florida. You may be assigned to support crews in any of our regions, not only the one you live in. Part of the job is learning how roadway jurisdiction works in different states, because who provides traffic coverage changes depending on where the work is.

Here is an honest picture of the day. Some stretches are quiet and steady. Others get intense, when a job moves, a detail cancels, or a crew is standing by waiting on coverage. If you are the kind of person who likes being the one who sorts that out, you will do well here. Everything runs on Excel, email, and the phone.

No telecommunications experience needed. We will train you on the industry, the roadways, and our process.

What you will do

• Coordinate daily with schedulers to determine traffic control needs for each crew and job site
• Schedule and dispatch flaggers and police details, and adjust coverage as job sites change through the day
• Work with several flagging companies to cover staffing needs across multiple crews and regions
• Read maps and research roadways to determine jurisdiction, since whether a road is a state, county, or local road determines whether you are calling state police, local police, or a flagging vendor
• Handle a high volume of calls and emails with police departments, municipalities, and vendors
• Track all scheduling, coverage, and confirmations in Excel
• Review invoices received from police departments, and explain to our billing team what the charges are and why they are there

What we are looking for

• Proficient in Excel. You will be in a spreadsheet all day.
• Strong phone and email skills, and the patience to keep working the phone until you reach the right person at a police department
• Comfortable reading maps and looking up roadway information
• Able to read an invoice, understand what is on it, and explain it clearly to someone else
• Organized and accurate, able to keep several moving pieces straight at once
• Calm and professional when the day changes fast
• Able to take direction and also work independently
• High school diploma or GED

Nice to have, not required

• Scheduling or dispatch experience of any kind
• Experience with a flagging or traffic control company, police department, municipality, or public works department
• Construction or telecommunications experience
• General familiarity with state or municipal permitting

Schedule: Full time, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30 minute lunch. On site at our office. This is not a remote position.

Pay:$17.00 to $20.00 per hour, based on experience
