Position: Crating Associate – 2nd Shift
Location:SE Grand Rapids, MI
Shift: 2nd | Monday-Thursday, 3pm-1:45am (4x10 Schedule)
Day 1 Starts at 2 PM
Pay:$18 + 1.50 Premium for 2nd shift = $19.50


Job Summary

The Crating Associate is responsible for building, inspecting, and repairing wooden crates used to safely package and transport products. This role requires the ability to read specifications, use hand and power tools, follow ISPM crating procedures, and maintain high standards for quality, safety, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build quality crates safely, on time, and at the lowest possible cost.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

  • Measure, cut, and assemble materials according to product requirements.

  • Ensure crates are built to properly protect the goods they will hold.

  • Inspect and repair damaged crates.

  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Follow ISPM crating processes and procedures.

  • Ensure all packaging and crating meets SGP quality standards.

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of materials and tools, and request supplies as needed.

  • Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment.

  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.

  • Follow all SGP safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations.

  • Provide feedback and suggestions to improve workplace safety.

  • Work respectfully and positively with team members.

  • Collaborate with coworkers to complete large or complex crating projects.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in crating, carpentry, packaging, construction, or a related manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, drawings, and written specifications.

  • Experience using hand tools and power tools.

  • Strong measuring, cutting, and assembly skills.

  • Ability to follow ISPM crating procedures.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Dependable, hardworking, and safety-minded.

  • Positive attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Ability to lift and move materials safely in a production environment.
