Material Handler

The Material Handler receives, stores, and issues materials, equipment, and other items within a stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard. This role ensures inventory accuracy, maintains orderly storage areas, and supports safe and efficient movement of goods throughout the facility.

• Receive incoming stock items and materials, count quantities accurately, and record data manually or using a computer system.
• Pack and unpack items to be stocked on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards, ensuring items are protected and organized.
• Verify inventory computations by comparing system records to physical counts of stock and investigate discrepancies or correct errors as needed.
• Store items in an orderly, accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other designated areas to support efficient retrieval.
• Label stock items clearly using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or other labeling equipment to maintain accurate identification and tracking.
• Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to uphold safety regulations and a tidy work environment.
• Keep detailed records of stock usage, damage, and handling of materials and equipment to support accurate inventory control.
• Examine and inspect stock items for wear, defects, or damage and promptly report any issues to supervisors.
• Provide assistance, guidance, or direction to other stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard workers to support team productivity.
• Handle material movement tasks such as material handling, packing, general warehouse duties, inventory accuracy checks, truck loading, and unloading trucks.
• Operate a sit-down forklift safely and efficiently to move materials and stock within the warehouse or yard, as required.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with team members and accurately document inventory information.
• Analytical and problem-solving ability to identify and resolve inventory discrepancies and stock-related issues.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team player and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
• Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies that support effective security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and facilities.
• Experience with material handling tasks, including loading, unloading, and moving materials within a warehouse environment.
• Ability to perform packing and general warehouse duties while maintaining inventory accuracy.
• Skill in operating a sit-down forklift in a safe and controlled manner.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• 0–2 years of related experience in a warehouse, stockroom, or material handling role.

• Familiarity with inventory control practices and record-keeping processes.
• Experience with truck loading and unloading procedures in a warehouse or yard environment.
• Comfort using basic computer systems or inventory software to enter and update stock data.
• Ability to follow established safety procedures and contribute to a secure work environment.

This position is based in a warehouse, stockroom, or storage yard setting where you will work around material handling equipment and stored goods. The role involves regular physical activity, including moving, packing, and organizing materials, as well as operating a sit-down forklift and assisting with truck loading and unloading. You will work a consistent schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The environment follows established safety regulations, with maintained storage areas, tools, and equipment to support secure and efficient operations. Work attire should be practical and suitable for a warehouse environment, allowing safe movement and compliance with safety guidelines.

This is a Contract position based out of Chicago, IL.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
