The Opportunity

Our client is a well-established community bank with over 125 years of history, known for a relationship-driven approach to commercial banking. The bank is seeking a Commercial Loan Officer to develop and manage a C&I-focused commercial loan portfolio in the Plano, Texas market, one of the most active commercial banking markets in the region.

This is a business-development-focused role. The successful candidate will be responsible for originating new commercial relationships, underwriting and structuring loans, and managing an existing portfolio, with an annual growth target of $12–20 million. The bank's in-house analyst team provides underwriting and credit support, allowing this role to remain focused on business development and client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new commercial relationships through a proactive calling strategy; retain and expand the existing portfolio.
  • Analyze credit history and repayment capacity of loan applicants.
  • Negotiate loan terms, repayment structures, and collateral requirements.
  • Maintain interest rate structures consistent with bank policy and current market conditions.
  • Evaluate loan requests and present recommendations to management.
  • Cross-sell additional bank products and services to commercial clients.
  • Conduct daily review, approval, and disposition of commercial overdrafts.
  • Monitor relevant lending regulations and recommend policy updates as needed.
  • Represent the bank in the community through client visits, prospecting, and participation in local business and industry events.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to newer commercial loan officers.

Qualifications

  • 3–10 years of commercial banking experience, with C&I lending as a core component.
  • Strong sales acumen and a demonstrated track record of new business development.
  • Comfortable with a client-facing, relationship-based role that includes regular travel to visit clients, prospects, and community events.
  • Solid working knowledge of commercial lending policies, procedures, and credit structuring.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting preferred.
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving ability, and interpersonal skills across a range of clients and colleagues.
  • Self-directed, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
