This role involves performing a wide range of manual tasks to support the movement, storage, and handling of freight, stock, and materials. The general laborer reads and follows work orders or verbal instructions, operates basic material handling equipment, and ensures accurate documentation of units handled. This position plays a key role in maintaining efficient operations in storage, production, and loading areas.

Responsibilities
  • Attach identifying tags to containers or clearly mark them with identifying information to ensure accurate tracking.
  • Read work orders or follow oral instructions to determine work assignments, material requirements, and equipment needs.
  • Record the number of units handled and moved using daily production sheets or work tickets.
  • Move freight, stock, and other materials to and from storage areas, production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, and containers by hand or using trucks, tractors, and other equipment.
  • Sort cargo before loading and unloading to maintain order and efficiency.
  • Assemble product containers and crates using hand tools and precut lumber.
  • Load and unload ship cargo using winches and other hoisting devices.
  • Pack containers and re-pack damaged containers to ensure safe transport and storage.
  • Carry needed tools and supplies from storage or trucks to work areas and return them after use.
  • Follow established policies, procedures, and security practices to protect people, data, property, and facilities.
Essential Skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to understand instructions and complete documentation accurately.
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability to handle unexpected issues during material handling and cargo operations.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment used for material handling, including trucks, tractors, winches, and other hoisting devices.
  • Understanding of policies, procedures, and strategies related to local, state, or national security operations as they apply to protecting people, data, property, and institutions.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 0–2 years of experience in a similar or related role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Comfort using hand tools for assembling product containers and crates.
  • Ability to interpret and follow work orders and production documentation.
  • Basic familiarity with inventory tracking and documentation processes.
  • Willingness to perform a variety of physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials.
  • Reliability and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
  • Interest in learning to operate additional material handling equipment as needed.

Work Environment

This position operates in a warehouse, storage, or production environment where you handle freight, stock, and materials throughout the facility. You will work with material handling equipment such as trucks, tractors, winches, hoisting devices, and hand tools for assembling crates and containers. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, providing a consistent daytime schedule. The work involves standing, walking, lifting, and moving materials in and around storage and loading areas, including loading docks and potentially ship-side operations. You will follow established safety and security procedures at all times while working in a structured, process-driven setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Beloit, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
