Senior Project Accountant – Drive Financial Performance for Federal Design/Build Projects

Job Overview:

The Opportunity

You will serve as a key financial leader establishing your career within a rapidly growing design/build construction company in the federal sector. This role empowers you to manage project finances from setup through closeout while positioning yourself for future leadership opportunities. You will directly influence business performance by serving as a strategic partner to executive leadership, finance, and operations.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Lead complete project financial administration, including budget setup, cost code tracking, change orders, and contract compliance.
  • Prepare owner billings, AIA applications, schedules of values, and manage retainage processes.
  • Partner with Project Managers to analyze job costs, variances, forecasts, and cost-to-complete reporting.
  • Perform monthly project reconciliations to support WIP schedules, accruals, and revenue recognition under GAAP.
  • Review subcontractor invoices for compliance regarding lien waivers, insurance, bonds, and certified payroll.
  • Manage project cash flows, payment tracking, and final financial closeouts to optimize working capital.
  • Standardize financial controls and deliver monthly variance analysis to executive leadership.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive construction accounting experience with WIP and month-end close.
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP, percentage-of-completion accounting, job costing, and project forecasting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, conditional formulas, and data analysis.
  • Proficiency with construction accounting platforms like Foundation, Acumatica, Sage Intacct, or Procore.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
  • Experience managing federal or government design/build construction contracts.
  • Demonstrated history of improving accounting processes and financial alignment with field operations.
