Program Description
Children’s Law Center (CLC) hosts a comprehensive, hands-on internship program. Law clerk and intern positions are available during spring, summer and fall semesters. Law clerk applicants must be current law students or recent law school graduates. All positions are unpaid and can be taken for credit. Hours are flexible. Generally, spring openings are posted in October, summer positions are posted in November and fall openings are posted in May.
The Evaluation and Learning team at the Children’s Law Center is responsible for leading and overseeing activities related to data collection, reporting, and research and evaluation for the organization. Specifically, the team manages and supports the case management system used by CLC’s legal program staff (Legal Server), works with program staff and leadership to ensure data quality and report on program performance and leads research and evaluation efforts to document program implementation and outcomes.
Position Summary
The Evaluation and Learning team is looking for a summer intern to assist with our ongoing work supporting Children’s Law Center’s legal and policy programs. The Evaluation and Learning team maintains CLC’s case management system, provides data for grant reporting, and works on a variety of collaborative research projects across the organization. The Evaluation and Learning intern should be willing to dive deep into case and client data and be ready to assist with data entry, as well as with data clean up, organization, and analysis. Applicants should feel comfortable navigating databases and show competency in translating data and results into easily digestible terms.
The Evaluation and Learning internship is most suitable for rising Junior or Senior Bachelors’ students. A strong interest and/or knowledge in research and evaluation and/or the social or legal nonprofit sector is a plus. Other qualifications include: knowledge/coursework in statistics, data analysis, research methods; proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; and experience working with analysis and/or data visualization tools such as R, Stata, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.; team player but comfortable working independently; well organized and pays close attention to detail.
Interns are expected to dedicate 10-20 hours per week during the spring term. Children’s Law Center is currently in a hybrid working schedule, with two days per week in the office in Washington, DC. This position will be responsible for some tasks that will require in-office work. We are happy to arrange school credit for your internship.
