The successful candidate will be able to take a customer specification or business requirement, develop an end-to-end technical plan, and implement the solution within an existing, interconnected processing environment. This role requires someone who understands how changes made at the beginning of a workflow can affect databases, services, applications, files, and production outputs downstream.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex data problems, working across multiple layers of an application, and taking ownership from initial requirements through production deployment.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain SQL-first, full-stack applications and data-processing workflows.
- Develop and support complex SQL queries, stored procedures, database objects, andSSIS packages.
- Build and maintain processes that ingest, validate, transform, and export structured and semi-structured data, including JSON and other file formats.
- Translate customer specifications and business requirements into practical, end-to-end technical plans.
- Analyze upstream and downstream dependencies before implementing changes.
- Integrate SQL-based workflows with internal and external APIs.
- Contribute to backend development using Python, C#, or comparable technologies.
- Support web application development when required.
- Diagnose and resolve SQL performance, data-quality, integration, and production-processing issues.
- Apply performance-tuning and code-optimization practices to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Develop appropriate validation, logging, error-handling, recovery, and monitoring processes.
- Test changes across the complete workflow to ensure they produce the intended downstream results.
- Collaborate with software engineering, client services, manufacturing, composition, and other business and technical teams.
- Estimate and prioritize work when requirements are both clearly defined and ambiguous.
- Deliver medium-to-large projects through the full software development lifecycle, from planning and design through deployment and production support.
- Assist and guide other engineers while contributing as a hands-on member of the team.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum development processes and help the team meet project milestones and delivery commitments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Four to seven years of professional software development, database engineering, or data-integration experience.

- Experience with SSIS or a comparable enterprise data-integration platform.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and support an interconnected, end-to-end processing environment.
- Experience diagnosing SQL performance issues and applying performance-tuning or code-optimization techniques.
- Experience taking at least one large project or multiple medium-sized projects from initial requirements through production deployment.
- Experience working with production systems, including troubleshooting, validation, and ongoing maintenance.
- Ability to independently translate general specifications into a structured technical approach.
- Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and nontechnical partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced experience with Microsoft SQL Server and SSIS.
- Experience integrating databases with REST APIs or other application services.
- Experience developing backend solutions with Python or C#.
- Experience processing JSON or other semi-structured data formats.
- Experience with Java or another object-oriented programming language.
- Experience with a modern frontend framework such as Vue.js, Angular, or React.
- Experience working in manufacturing, document composition, financial services, or another production-oriented environment.
- Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical guidance to project teams.
