Reston, VA (CONUS / OCONUS Support) | Hybrid / Remote Eligible Based on Mission Requirements TS/SCI RequiredPosition SummaryGC2IT is seeking a Cloud Architect to design, build, and evolve a large-scale, globally distributed mission system operating across AWS cloud environments and on-premises virtualized infrastructure. The position leads secure, repeatable Infrastructure-as-Code patterns for compute, network connectivity, and platform services across development, test, staging, production, and lab environments.Key Responsibilities· Design and implement reference architectures for AWS and hybrid cloud/on-premises environments.· Define deployment patterns for multi-account and multi-environment separation, network segmentation, and scalable compute/storage stacks.· Establish standardized landing-zone practices, including account structure, guardrails, logging, tagging, and cost controls.· Build and maintain Terraform modules and reusable IaC patterns for AWS infrastructure, including VPCs, IAM roles/policies, load balancing, and logging foundations.· Architect and support virtualized compute fleets using VMware/vSphere patterns, including golden images, patching baselines, and provisioning workflows.· Partner with security teams to implement secure-by-design architectures using least-privilege IAM, encryption, and centralized audit logging.· Design for resilience and continuity through backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery considerations, and multi-AZ patterns.· Support CI/CD enablement for infrastructure deployments using Git-based workflows integrated with Terraform plans and applies.· Collaborate with application teams to provide standardized environments and deployment blueprints.· Produce clear architecture documentation, including logical/physical diagrams, environment definitions, and as-built artifacts.Required Qualifications· Bachelor's degree in a related field; four additional years of experience may substitute for a degree.· Ten to fifteen or more years of experience in cloud architecture, systems engineering, or infrastructure engineering, including at least three years as a hands-on AWS architect or lead.· Deep expertise with AWS core services and secure architectures, including networking, IAM, logging, compute, and storage.· Hands-on expertise with Terraform for production-grade infrastructure-as-code, including modules, state management, promotion strategies, and drift detection.· Experience designing and operating hybrid environments spanning cloud and on-premises virtualization.· Ability to translate requirements into scalable, maintainable, and secure architectures and provide implementation guidance.· Ability to travel internationally up to 10 percent.· Must possess an active passport or be able to obtain one upon hire.· Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance.Preferred Qualifications· AWS certifications; Solutions Architect Professional preferred.· Experience with VMware/vSphere architecture and operations, including templates, clusters, networking, and storage.· Familiarity with configuration automation tools such as Ansible and Packer and with GitOps-style workflows.· Experience with observability patterns for metrics, logs, and traces and integrating monitoring into operations.· Experience implementing multi-account AWS governance using Organizations and SCPs and cost controls using tagging and budgets.Travel Requirements· International travel up to 10 percent may be required.Security Clearance RequirementActive Top Secret/SCI security clearance required.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
