About the Company
This position is with an established South Florida MEP consulting engineering firm that has been designing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in the region for more than fifty years. The firm is partner led, its principals are practicing professional engineers who stay on their own projects, and its project teams are small enough that an engineer works directly with the partner running the job.
The portfolio is high-rise residential, hospitality, mixed-use and institutional work, including towers currently in design and under construction in Miami. The firm designs in Revit on an in-house BIM standard it developed itself. This is a design house, not a production shop: engineers own their systems from concept through permit and into construction administration.

The Role
An Electrical Engineer (EIT or PE), full time and on site in Miami, designing electrical systems for high-rise and large commercial projects modeling directly in Revit yourself.
That last point decides this role. This is a design seat, not a review seat. The firm expects its engineers to model their own work rather than redline drawings for a drafter. If you have spent the last several years checking other people's sheets, this is not your chair.
What You Will Do
- Power distribution. Service entrance and utility coordination, switchgear, transformers, panelboards, feeder and riser distribution up a tower. Load calculations per NEC Article 220.
- Studies. Short-circuit and fault-current analysis, protective device coordination, arc-flash, and voltage drop across long vertical runs.
- Lighting. Lighting design and photometrics, plus lighting controls meeting the Florida Building Code, Energy Conservation and the ASHRAE 90.1-2019 compliance path.
- Emergency and standby power. Generator sizing, automatic transfer switches, the life-safety branch, fire pump feeders and elevator recall the systems that separate high-rise electrical from everything else. NEC Articles 700/701/702/708 and NFPA 110.
- Grounding, bonding and lightning protection on tall buildings in a lightning-heavy climate.
- Fire alarm and low voltage. Design or coordinate the fire alarm system to NFPA 72, and lay in telecom, security and AV pathways.
- Coordination. Work the model against mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, structural and architectural, and resolve clashes before sheets are issued.
- Code and permit. Design to the Florida Building Code (currently the 8th Edition, 2023, which adopts NFPA 70 the 2020 NEC by reference in Chapter 27) and to Miami-Dade High-Velocity Hurricane Zone requirements, including product approval for exterior-mounted equipment. Produce permit sets, answer plan review comments, then support RFIs and submittals through construction.
What You Need
- EIT or PE. A Florida PE is welcome, but an EIT is genuinely accepted this seat is not PE-gated.
- Hands-on Revit. Mandatory, and it is tested. You will be asked which buildings you modeled yourself and how you set up your electrical families and panel schedules on them.
- Buildings, not infrastructure. Roadway, drainage, utility distribution, transmission, traffic, controls and test engineering are different disciplines and do not transfer to this seat.
- Demonstrable high-rise and large-project design experience. Single-family residential and small commercial alone will not carry the role.
- Working knowledge of the Florida Building Code and the NEC.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Able to work on site in Miami, full time, and authorized to work in the United States.
Nice to Have
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- SKM PowerTools, ETAP or EasyPower for studies; AGi32 for photometrics; Navisworks for clash detection; AutoCAD alongside Revit.
- Miami-Dade or City of Miami permitting experience, and familiarity with the HVHZ amendments.
- Prior MEP consulting-firm background, as opposed to contractor or owner side.
