Job Description
Shape the Future of Care with Precision

Avalign designs and manufactures innovative, highperformance, costeffective medical devices. Our team is growing fast because our custom-made components make a real difference for clinicians and their patients.

We currently have three openings for experienced CNC programming professionals across three specialties: CNC Mill, Swiss Lathe, and Laser Etch. As a CAM Applications Engineer, you’ll convert engineering intent into flawlessly machined parts through expert programming, fixture design, and process optimization.

A Day in the Life

You start by reviewing drawings and specifications, interpreting GD&T per ASME Y14.5. You model, program, and simulate in CAD/CAM (Mastercam, Esprit, SolidWorks), then head to the floor to prove out, troubleshoot, and optimize new toolpaths. You validate measuring equipment calibration, complete required equipment checks, and ensure product ID and traceability are maintained. Throughout the day, you refine cycle times by iterating tooling strategies and fixture concepts, transition new jobs to stable, repeatable production, and document best practices for both new and legacy parts. When complex issues arisechip control, dimensional variation, or machine performanceyou lead the diagnosis, mentoring programmers, manufacturing engineers, and machinists. If your focus is Swiss, you serve as the go-to technical authority across the shop.

Your Core Responsibilities
  • Create, modify, and verify CNC programs and setup sheets for your assigned operations (Mill, Swiss, or Laser Etch).
  • Generate toolpaths, 3D models, and drawings within CAD/CAM; independently set up, prove out, and optimize programs for stable production.
  • Design and program robust workholding fixtures for varying production volumes; develop and improve advanced CNC machining and inspection processes.
  • Lead troubleshooting across tooling, workholding, chip control, machine performance, process capability, and dimensional variation.
  • Serve as a technical authority for Swiss machining processes; mentor teammates on advanced strategies and best practices.
  • Confirm prior-operation signoffs and verify part counts before machining; complete maintenance checks prior to manufacturing.
  • Ensure measurement devices are in calibration and in good working order before use; follow department Standard Process Instructions.
  • Reference applicable drawings, specifications, and Manufacturing Process Instructions before starting any operation; maintain ID and traceability.
  • Reduce cycle time by optimizing toolpaths, cutting tools, and fixturing; ensure new CNC programs support smooth product flow through the facility.
  • Create and maintain clear process documentation for legacy products; research, test, and deploy new cutting tools, workholding, and programming technologies.
Qualifications
  • AS in Manufacturing Technology preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years with CAD/CAM (Esprit/Mastercam & SolidWorks preferred) and CNC equipment in a manufacturing environment; medical device experience a plus.
