Position Overview

First Phase Core Academy (FPCA) is seeking a dependable, energetic, and student-focused Academic Tutor / Instructional Support Team Member for the 2026–2027 school year.

This position supports students and Core Subject Teachers within FPCA's small-group instructional model. The Academic Tutor provides individual and small-group academic support, reinforces skills taught by Core Subject Teachers, assists students who need additional practice or intervention, and helps maintain a productive learning environment throughout the school day.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tutor, paraprofessional, education major, retired educator, or other qualified individual who enjoys working directly with students in a smaller educational setting.

Responsibilities

The Academic Tutor / Instructional Support Team Member will:

• Provide individual and small-group academic support to students.
• Reinforce Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, writing, study skills, and other academic concepts as directed by Core Subject Teachers.
• Assist students with targeted intervention, skill practice, assignments, projects, and academic activities.
• Support students using school-provided curriculum, instructional resources, and educational technology.
• Work with students at varying grade and academic levels.
• Assist Core Subject Teachers during instructional rotations as needed.
• Help monitor student progress and communicate academic concerns to teachers and administration.
• Assist with maintaining student work samples and instructional materials.
• Reinforce school expectations, classroom routines, and positive student behavior.
• Assist with student supervision during transitions, lunch, recess, testing, arrival/dismissal, and other activities as assigned.
• Maintain a professional, positive, and supportive learning environment.
• Collaborate with teachers, administration, and other instructional-support staff.

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong reading, writing, communication, and basic mathematics skills.
• Ability to work effectively with children and adolescents.
• Ability to provide academic support individually and in small groups.
• Patience, dependability, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow instructional plans and teacher/administrative direction while also working independently with students.
• Ability to successfully complete required background screening and fingerprinting.
• Reliable transportation and ability to report consistently to our Orlando school location.

Preferred:

• College coursework, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or current enrollment in an education-related college program.
• Previous experience as a tutor, paraprofessional, teaching assistant, classroom aide, mentor, educator, or youth-program staff member.
• Experience supporting students with different learning styles and academic needs.
• Experience with academic intervention, small-group instruction, or educational technology.

Schedule

Monday through Friday during daytime school hours, approximately 20–25 hours per week.

The schedule will be structured around instructional rotations, intervention periods, and student-support needs.

Compensation

$16.00–$18.00 per hour, based on education, relevant experience, and qualifications.

About the Role

At FPCA, Academic Tutors are an important part of the instructional team. This position is designed to support and reinforce instruction provided by Core Subject Teachers, while giving students additional academic attention when they need it.

We are seeking someone who enjoys working directly with students, can build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries and expectations, and understands that sometimes a student simply needs additional explanation, practice, encouragement, or a different approach before a concept clicks.

This is an in-person position in Orlando, Florida. Remote work is not available.
