About The Village Retail

The Village Retail is an Atlanta based brick and mortar shop carrying a curated selection of products from independent brands. We are a small business retail environment where every team member has a direct hand in the customer experience. Working here means giving every customer who walks in a reason to come back.

Position Summary

The Key Carrier is a trusted, entrusted member of the retail team who is authorized to open and close the store, handle cash and deposits, arm and disarm the security system, and lead the sales floor when a manager is not present. This is a customer facing sales role first and a keyholder role second. The right person delivers outstanding service, drives sales, protects the store and its assets, and can be counted on during our busiest and most critical selling periods.

Key Carrier Responsibilities
  • Open and close the store according to established procedures, including alarm arming and disarming, lighting, and securing all entry points.
  • Serve as the responsible party on the sales floor during assigned shifts when a manager is not on site.
  • Count, verify, and reconcile the cash drawer at open and close; prepare bank deposits and complete daily sales reporting accurately.
  • Safeguard store keys, alarm codes, and access credentials, and report any security concern to management immediately.
  • Direct and support associates on shift, delegate floor and stock tasks, and keep the team on pace during peak traffic.
  • Resolve customer escalations on the spot within established guidelines and escalate to management when appropriate.
  • Complete opening and closing checklists, shift notes, and incident reports.

Sales and Customer Service Responsibilities

  • Welcome every customer, assess their needs, and guide them to the right products from our brand partners.
  • Maintain deep product knowledge across the brands we carry, including the story behind them, and share it with customers.
  • Meet and exceed individual and store sales goals on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Process point of sale transactions, returns, and exchanges accurately.
  • Suggest complementary products and add on purchases to increase basket size.
  • Maintain the store’s visual standards: restock, face, straighten, and keep assigned areas clean and presentable.
  • Follow inventory control procedures, including receiving, counts, and loss prevention practices.
  • Contribute ideas to improve sales, merchandising, and in store experience.
  • Support in store activations, pop ups, and brand partner events.

Availability Requirements

Availability is a core requirement of this role, not a preference. Please apply only if you can meet all of the following:

  • Availability to work nights and weekends on a recurring basis.
  • Weekends: A minimum of two weekends per month.
  • Holiday coverage: Availability during peak and critical business periods, including Thanksgiving weekend (Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Sunday) and expanded hours throughout the month of December.
  • Critical times: Availability for other critical periods such as major sale events, brand activations, and signature store events.
  • Reliable, on time attendance with schedules posted in advance and limited call outs during blackout periods.

Requested time off during Thanksgiving week and the month of December is generally not approved, other than as required by law.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven retail experience as a sales associate, keyholder, shift lead, or similar role. Retail experience is required.
  • Hands on experience with point of sale systems and cash handling.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, including the ability to de-escalate and resolve complaints promptly.
  • Basic math skills and comfort reconciling a drawer and preparing a deposit.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and be trusted with keys, codes, and cash.
  • Ability to meet the availability requirements above.
  • Ability to pass a background check, consistent with applicable law.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year or more in a keyholder, shift lead, or opening and closing capacity.
  • Familiarity with a retail point of sale and inventory platform.
  • Experience in a boutique, specialty, or small business retail environment.
  • Genuine interest in independent brands and small business retail.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for the duration of a shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and to bend, reach, and climb a step ladder for stocking and merchandising.

Equal Opportunity

The Village Retail is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to a workplace free from discrimination and we welcome applicants of every background
