Job Title: Technical Writer

Job Description

This Technical Writer role supports an AIenabled military training and simulation program focused on mission systems, avionics, communications, sensors, and training operations. You will develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency across program deliverables. Working closely with technical and engineering teams, you will gather information and translate complex concepts into clear, userfriendly documentation while maintaining strong document control, version management, and configuration management practices. This position plays a key role in ensuring documentation meets government and program standards for defense and aerospace programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and edit technical documentation, procedures, training materials, and program deliverables for AIenabled military training and simulation systems.
  • Collaborate with technical, engineering, software, and program teams to gather detailed information and translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and userfriendly documentation.
  • Maintain document control processes, including version management and configuration management, to ensure documentation is current, traceable, and properly archived.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with government, defense, and program standards, including DoD and aerospace defense requirements.
  • Review and proofread documentation for accuracy, consistency, grammar, and adherence to established documentation standards and style guidelines.
  • Support program compliance by aligning documentation with contract requirements, technical specifications, and configuration baselines.
  • Continuously update and improve existing documentation based on stakeholder feedback, system changes, and evolving program needs.
  • Use document management tools and Microsoft Office applications to create, organize, and maintain technical documents and related artifacts.
  • Coordinate with crossfunctional teams to ensure training materials and technical documentation effectively support mission systems, avionics, communications, sensors, and training operations.
  • Contribute to the documentation strategy for military training and mission systems programs, including AIenabled and simulationbased solutions.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of technical writing experience supporting technical, engineering, software, or government programs.
  • Proven experience creating, editing, and maintaining technical documentation, procedures, training materials, and program deliverables.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and accessible documentation for diverse audiences.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, federal government, or defense contracting programs.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and document control skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with documentation standards, configuration management practices, and compliance requirements for government or defense programs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and document management tools.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Communications, English, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting AI, simulation, or training systems in technical or defense environments.
  • Experience in avionics, aerospace, or military programs and their associated documentation needs.
  • Knowledge of military training systems, mission systems, avionics, communications, or sensor technologies.
  • Experience supporting MAST (Mission Avionics Systems Trainer), military training, or mission systems programs.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.

Work Environment

This role is based onsite in an officerelated environment. You will work closely with technical and program teams in a collaborative setting, using standard office technologies, Microsoft Office applications, and document management tools to produce and maintain highquality technical documentation for defense and aerospace programs.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Fairborn, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
