This role starts as a hands-on labor position in a clean, industrial manufacturing environment, with a clear path to progress into a machine operator role. You will support day-to-day production activities, use precision measuring tools, and assist with material handling and shipment preparation while learning the skills needed to operate CNC and other machining equipment.
ResponsibilitiesEmployees benefit from a strong union environment that offers clear progression and competitive pay scales over time. After a probationary period, team members gain union membership and can move into higher-paying machine roles as they develop their skills. The benefits package is designed to be affordable and predictable, with medical and dental coverage available at a low deductible and a fixed cost per paycheck regardless of family size. Structured pay scales in departments such as lathe and handyman roles provide transparent earning potential, and long-term employees can reach attractive average pay rates after a few years of service. The culture emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and professionalism in one of the cleanest machine shop environments in the region.
Work EnvironmentThe work takes place in an enclosed, temperature-regulated industrial facility focused on steel manufacturing, with extensive milling and lathe machines. The building is well lit and kept relatively clean compared to typical industrial settings, making it one of the cleanest machine shops in northwest Indiana. Certain areas can be loud due to active machining operations, so hearing protection is part of the standard safety gear. The schedule follows a rotating 21-day pattern, with two weeks spent on each shift: five days on first shift with Saturday and Sunday off, five days on third shift with weekends off, and five days on second shift with weekends off. The company provides steel-toe footwear, and the dress code includes a uniform, metatarsal protection, ear plugs, hard hat, and safety glasses to ensure safety and compliance with industrial standards.
