Job Title: Quality Inspector

Job Description

The Quality Inspector performs first article, in-process, receiving, and final inspections of precision manufactured components and assemblies to ensure they meet customer specifications, engineering drawings, and internal quality standards. This role uses Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), precision measurement tools, and established quality control procedures to verify dimensional accuracy and product conformity, while actively supporting defect reduction and continuous improvement initiatives within the Quality Assurance department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform first article, in-process, receiving, and final inspections of manufactured parts and assemblies to verify compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Operate and program Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to confirm dimensional requirements for precision components.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, indicators, optical comparators, and surface plate inspection equipment, to conduct accurate measurements.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), specifications, and inspection plans to determine inspection criteria.
  • Conduct detailed dimensional and visual inspections to ensure products meet customer and internal quality requirements.
  • Document inspection results clearly and maintain accurate, organized quality records and documentation.
  • Identify, label, and segregate non-conforming materials and products to prevent unintended use.
  • Assist with root cause investigations and corrective action activities to address quality issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Create and review inspection reports, including First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and other quality documentation.
  • Verify the calibration status of measurement and inspection equipment to ensure reliability and accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to resolve quality issues and support production needs.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing inspection records, documentation, and process information as required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives to enhance quality processes and reduce defects.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in accordance with company policies and safety standards.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing or machining environment preferred.
  • Experience operating CMM equipment required.
  • Experience inspecting precision machined components and assemblies preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of quality control, quality assurance, and quality inspection practices.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Proficiency in using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, optical comparators, and surface plate inspection equipment.
  • Ability to perform detailed visual inspections and quality checks.
  • Competence in operating and programming CMM machines and creating CMM programs.
  • Ability to document inspection results accurately and maintain quality records.
  • Understanding of non-conformance identification and segregation procedures.
  • Basic familiarity with root cause analysis and corrective action processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical degree or quality-related certification preferred.
  • experience in a manufacturing or machining environment is beneficial.
  • Experience with First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and related quality documentation.
  • Comfort working with inspection plans and specifications for precision components.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills when reviewing measurements and inspection data.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, engineering, and quality.
  • Interest in and willingness to participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple inspections and maintaining documentation.

Work Environment

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Myers, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
