Description:
A Mechanic I is an experienced electrical field employee who understands basic electrical installation fundamentals and can complete routine assignments with limited supervision.
The employee may have approximately four or more years of relevant experience but may still require development in certain electrical systems, installation methods, troubleshooting activities, or project responsibilities.
General Responsibilities
A Mechanic I may be responsible for:
- Installing conduit, cable, wire, supports, devices, and electrical equipment.
- Reading basic electrical drawings and installation details.
- Completing routine installations with limited supervision.
- Identifying commonly used materials and installation requirements.
- Performing basic measurements and layout.
- Assisting with electrical testing and troubleshooting.
- Identifying installation issues and escalating them appropriately.
- Guiding Helpers and Apprentices on routine work.
- Maintaining accurate time and project documentation.
- Complying with safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
Requirements:
Expected Technical Competencies:
- Install EMT, PVC, and basic rigid conduit.
- Install branch circuit wiring.
- Install devices and lighting.
- Read simple electrical drawings.
- Perform basic layout work.
- Understand basic electrical systems.
- Perform basic continuity testing.
- Use electrical test instruments safely.
- Identify installation deficiencies.
