Role Summary

The RNC HVAC Residential Estimator I is an entry-level role for someone learning Del-Air's residential estimating process. This person works under direct supervision, handles standard Quick Bid estimates, and builds the accuracy and work habits needed to take on more responsibility.

This role reports to the RNC HVAC Estimating Supervisor and works closely with other estimators, sales, and design team. Typical time in this role is 3 to 12 months, depending on accuracy, pace, judgment, and department needs.

This role is responsible for:

  • Completing accurate takeoffs for standard residential Quick Bid jobs
  • Learning department templates, pricing rules, and documentation standards
  • Supporting lot-specific requests under supervision
  • Improving accuracy, pace, and judgment over time
Core Responsibilities1. Takeoffs and Estimates
  • Complete full takeoffs for standard residential Quick Bid jobs.
  • Review blueprints, specifications, and past project data to prepare labor, material, and equipment estimates.
  • Prepare itemized takeoff lists for ductwork, grilles, and related equipment.
  • Apply department ductwork pricing standards with limited correction.
  • Apply approved profit factors after all costs are included.
2. Proposals
  • Prepare clean Quick Bid proposals using department templates.
  • Apply assigned margin tiers as directed by the supervisor.
  • Include the required scope, notes, and exclusions in each proposal.
  • Prepare formal contracts with the required inclusions and upgrades for the project.
3. Return-Air and Equipment Standards
  • Identify enclosed rooms that require return air and apply the main return plus room return rule.
  • Apply BOD-based layout and airflow rules on standard jobs.
  • Bring design conflicts and equipment selection questions to the supervisor before moving forward.
4. Workflow and Tools
  • Use Salesforce Opportunities for all assigned jobs.
  • Complete Plan Review entries accurately and on time.
  • Keep file names and job folders organized according to department standards.
  • Modify HVAC designs on blueprints and make red-line changes as directed.
5. Lot-Specific Support
  • Review lot-specific requests and sort them as simple, moderate, or complex.
  • Handle minor lot-specific revisions when qualified to do so.
  • Escalate complex lot-specific work to the supervisor promptly.
6. Communication and Standards
  • Communicate clearly with sales, designers, and supervisors.
  • Ask questions early when scope, pricing, or design direction is unclear.
  • Follow all Del-Air policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Estimating Supervisor.
Performance Standards1. Accuracy
  • Estimates are complete and require fewer corrections as skill level improves.
  • Accuracy improves during the first 12 months.
  • Proposals include required scopes, notes, and exclusions before submission.
2. Turnaround
  • Bids are completed within the defined turnaround time.
  • Lot-specific triage requests are reviewed and categorized the same day they are received.
3. Workflow Compliance
  • Salesforce and Plan Review entries are accurate and completed on time.
  • File naming and documentation follow department standards.
4. Readiness to Advance
  • Able to complete standard Quick Bids with limited supervisory review by month 9.
  • Able to handle basic lot-specific requests with limited escalation.
  • Shows reliable follow-through, accuracy, and clear communication.

5. Adherence to Company Policy

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace
  • Ensure regular and reliable attendance
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures

6. Contribute to Other Organizational Duties (as needed)

  • Responsible for special projects as requested by management and other duties/responsibilities as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered in place of a degree.
  • Previous HVAC or estimating experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Wrightsoft, Manual J, or EnergyGauge is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in Salesforce or similar workflow systems, or willing to learn.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Eligible to legally work in the United States; must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must successfully complete a background check and drug screen.
