Description

The Communications Technician must be able to perform the technical responsibilities of a Technician and function as a lead member of a technical team.

Positions are for 1st (7am-6pm) and 2nd (1pm-10pm). They would like candidates to be flexible as they fill shifts as they are available.

Seeking Communications Technicians (Tech I and Tech II) to support structured cabling installations within a large-scale data center environment in New Albany, Ohio. This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in low-voltage cabling, telecommunications infrastructure, and commercial construction environments.

Technicians will perform cable installation, routing, labeling, and termination activities while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and professionalism. Candidates should be comfortable working in active construction environments and be willing to work either first or second shift as project needs dictate.

Key ResponsibilitiesStructured Cabling Installation
  • Pull, route, dress, and label Cat5e/Cat6 cabling according to TIA/EIA industry standards
  • Assist with RJ45 connector installations and patch panel terminations
  • Perform basic telecom punch-down terminations
  • Support cable testing activities using Fluke and EXFO testing equipment
  • Assist with fiber optic cable handling and dressing
Documentation & Compliance
  • Complete timesheets, work orders, material transfers, change orders, and other project documentation accurately and on time
  • Follow all customer, company, and industry safety procedures
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area
  • Adhere to quality standards and installation best practices
Team Support
  • Take direction from lead technicians and supervisors
  • Collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines
  • Assist in implementing process improvements when appropriate
  • Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers and project stakeholders
Required QualificationsTechnical Experience
  • Experience with structured cabling installations
  • Knowledge of Cat5e and Cat6 cabling systems
  • Experience pulling and dressing cable
  • Familiarity with cable terminations, patch panels, and RJ45 connectors
  • Understanding of construction site safety practices

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior data center experience
  • Fiber optic cable experience
  • Fluke testing experience
  • EXFO testing experience
  • Commercial low-voltage or telecommunications installation experience
Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to:

  • Work at heights and from ladders
  • Work in confined spaces
  • Lift up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Move materials weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Distinguish wire and cable colors accurately
  • Read small print and recognize audible signals
  • Travel within the local branch territory when required

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Albany, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
