Job Title: Industrial Painter

Job Description

This role focuses on painting finished products such as mechanic bodies, tire service bodies, miscellaneous parts, and occasionally chassis and other finished products using industrial painting techniques. You will prepare surfaces, mix paints according to technical specifications, and apply coatings using HVLP spray equipment and paint booths while following blueprints, work orders, and paint mixing procedures. The position requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to quality and safety, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a production team in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Paint finished products, including mechanic bodies, tire service bodies, miscellaneous parts, and occasionally chassis and other finished products, as directed by the lead person or supervisor.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and other technical documents, including paint mixing procedures, to ensure accurate and consistent results.
  • Perform all aspects of paint preparation, including sanding, blasting, masking, cleaning, and other prep work required to achieve proper surface conditions.
  • Set up, operate, and adjust HVLP spray guns, paint booths, and related painting equipment to complete assignments safely and efficiently.
  • Mix paints and coatings according to specified formulas and procedures to achieve required colors, finishes, and performance characteristics.
  • Work collaboratively with other employees as part of a team to complete production orders in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Follow direction from area supervision and adjust work priorities as needed to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain efficiency with mechanical equipment and tools used in the painting and finishing process.
  • Consistently demonstrate a productive, reliable, and non-disruptive work ethic while maintaining focus throughout the shift.
  • Work in a manner that minimizes scrap and rework, and actively support continuous improvement of quality levels.
  • Follow all company safety rules, procedures, and policies as outlined in the safety manual and other company guidelines.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition to support efficient operations.
  • Operate all required tooling and equipment safely and correctly to fulfill basic job requirements.
  • Continually strive to improve skills, techniques, and overall performance in all aspects of the job.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production, quality, and operational goals.
  • Meet physical requirements of the role, including standing on concrete floors for most of the shift, lifting and pushing up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and performing crouching, squatting, kneeling, and occasional crawling as needed.
  • Use all five senses daily to maintain personal and team safety while operating equipment and performing job tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Prior basic painting and bodywork aptitude in an industrial or automotive setting.
  • Ability to perform industrial painting, including use of HVLP spray guns and paint booths.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work orders accurately.
  • Basic manufacturing work with demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in paint preparation activities such as sanding, blasting, masking, and cleaning.
  • Capability to follow paint mixing procedures and other technical documents related to industrial painting.
  • Ability to operate mechanical equipment and tools safely and effectively.
  • Good hand dexterity and balance to operate all required equipment and perform detailed work.
  • Ability to stand on a concrete floor for the majority of the shift, excluding break times.
  • Ability to lift and push up to 50 pounds, with most lifts occurring from floor to waist height.
  • Ability to reach and grab parts up to 10 pounds and perform tasks that may involve climbing ladders, crouching, squatting, kneeling, and minimal crawling.
  • Consistent adherence to safety rules, policies, and procedures in a manufacturing environment.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality, with the ability to be prompt and on time daily for work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial painting in a production environment is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with automotive or industrial bodywork processes.
  • Experience using HVLP spray systems, paint booths, and related finishing equipment.
  • Exposure to powder coating, auto body work, or production painting environments.
  • Basic computer skills are a plus but not required.
  • Willingness to learn all aspects of the job and continuously improve skills and techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take direction from supervisors.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work with minimal scrap or rework.

Work Environment

The role is based in a standard automotive manufacturing environment within a facility of approximately 75 employees. The plant is a non-climate-controlled facility, so temperatures may vary with the seasons. You will work primarily on the first shift, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., standing on concrete floors for most of the shift. The environment includes the use of HVLP spray guns, paint booths, sanding and blasting equipment, and other industrial tools and machinery typical of an automotive or industrial painting operation. The work involves regular lifting, pushing, reaching, climbing short ladders, and performing tasks that may require crouching, squatting, kneeling, and occasional crawling, all while maintaining safe work practices and proper use of personal protective equipment as required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Galion, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.93 - $30.83/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
