Job Summary:
The Adult Education ESL Instructor is responsibleforprovidinghigh-qualityEnglishasaSecondLanguage (ESL)instructiontoadultlearners,primarilylow-incomewomen,inasupportive,inclusive,and trauma-informed environment. This role focuses on helping students improve English proficiency while integrating life skills, digital literacy, and career readiness. The ideal candidate is a certifiedteacherwith prior adult ESL teachingexperience,knowledgeableincareerreadinessstandards,andfamiliarwithstate and federal adult education policies.TheinstructormustalsobeproficientinonlineteachingusingZoom and Google Classroom.
Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Delivery
- Developanddeliverstudent-centeredESLinstructionalignedwithCollegeandCareer Readiness Standards (CCRS).
- Integratecontextualizedinstructiononjobreadiness,communityengagement,andlife skills.
- Teachin-person,remotely(viaZoom),and/orinhybridsettings,adaptingmaterialsand strategies accordingly.
- UtilizeGoogleClassroomtopostassignments,shareresources,andsupportstudent learning outside of class.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring- Administerstandardizedassessments(CASAS)todeterminestudentplacementand measure learning gains.
- Maintainaccurateandtimelyrecordsofstudentattendance,progress,andperformance in accordance with state and federal requirements.
Student engagement and support- Fosterarespectful,inclusive,andculturallyresponsivelearningenvironmenttailoredto adult learners.
- Supportstudentpersistenceandgoalsettingthroughpersonalizedfeedbackand encouragement.
- Identifyandhelpaddressbarrierstolearning(e.g.,digitalliteracy,accessissues)in coordination with program staff.
Compliance & Reporting
- EnsureinstructionalpracticesalignwithWIOATitleIIandstateadulteducation guidelines.
- Submit required reports, assessments, and documentation in compliance with program policies.
Collaboration & Professional Development
- Collaboratewithfellowinstructors,programcoordinators,andsupportstafftoensure consistent instruction and wraparound services.
- Participateinprofessionaldevelopmentrelatedtoadulteducation,digitaltools, trauma-informed instruction, and equity-based practices.
Qualifications/Education/Licensing/Experience: Required
- Bachelor’sdegreeinEducation,TESOL,AppliedLinguistics,orrelateddiscipline.
- Minimum2yearsofexperienceteachingadultEnglishlanguagelearners.
- FamiliaritywithCollegeandCareerReadinessStandards(CCRS)foradulteducation.
- Knowledgeofstateandfederaladulteducationguidelines(e.g.,WIOA,TitleII).
- ExperiencedeliveringinstructiononlineviaZoomandmanagingcontentthroughGoogle Classroom.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and digital literacy skills.
Preferred- Valid teaching certification in ESL, Adult Education, or a related field.
- Master’sdegreeinTESOL,AdultEducation,orarelatedfield.
- Bilingual(Spanish,Arabic,orotherlanguagerelevanttothelearnercommunity).
- Experienceworkingwithlow-income,immigrant,orrefugeepopulations.
- Knowledgeoftrauma-informedandculturallyresponsiveteachingpractices

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Classes run Monday through Thursday 9:00 - 2:00, during the academic year (September - June)
- Instruction is in person at Zaman, although students may be online, in-person, or hybrid.
