About the role

The Operations Team Member is the face of Climb Nittany. You are the first person guests meet when they walk through the door and the one that guides their experience in our gym. This role handles front-of-house operations, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for guests, and managing risk. At Climb Nittany, we pride ourselves on being stewards of both climbing education and current industry standards.

Success in this role requires interacting cordially with guests of all ages and backgrounds, performing facility upkeep and cleaning tasks to a high standard, and a willingness to both learn and teach climbing-related skills. You’ll work with other Team Members to sustain a third space environment for guests to not only climb, but also socialize and decompress.

What you’ll do as a Part-Time Operations Team Member

• Guest Experience
  • Welcome guests into the gym and provide them with exceptional customer service.
  • Fluently navigate gym software and accurately handle POS transactions.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of our membership, day use, programming, and product offerings, effectively promoting them to guests.
• Education & Instruction
  • Lead informative and enjoyable facility orientations, introductory classes and group events.
  • Administer proficiency tests in accordance with company standards.
  • Build your knowledge of both bouldering and rope system climbing.
  • Effectively communicate climbing concepts to guests of all ages.
• Facility & Operations
  • Open and close the gym in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Perform daily cleaning and upkeep tasks.
  • Restock the retail and concessions spaces.
  • Efficiently control the flow of the gym at high-traffic hours.
• Safety & Risk Management
  • Monitor guest waivers, check-ins and proficiencies.
  • Clearly communicate facility rules and information to guests.
  • Stay current on industry standards and best practices.

Qualifications

Required

• Weekend and evening availability
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work well in a busy, sometimes loud environment
• Comfortable standing for long periods of time, performing physical labor and sometimes working at height
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Current or ability to obtain, prior to working with minors, all required Pennsylvania clearances and certifications, including SafeSport and Pennsylvania Mandated Reporter Training.

Preferred

• 18 years of age or older
• 1+ year of customer service experience
• Experience with climbing or active lifestyle environments
• Experience with point-of-sale systems
• Experience working within a team

Additional Information

This is a part-time hourly position with an expected compensation range of $14-18 per hour, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated skills.

This role is expected to begin as a limited part-time position supporting the initial growth of facility operations, with opportunities to expand as programs develop and includes:

• Flexible overall schedule aligned with the needs of a community-based climbing gym. Evening and weekend availability required for operational support, classes, competitions, and special events.

About Climb Nittany

Climb Nittany is a 12,000 sq. ft., full-service indoor climbing gym located in Boalsburg, PA, and featuring 10,000 sq. ft. of climbing wall space for bouldering, top rope, and lead climbing. Since opening in 2020, Climb Nittany has become critical to the Centre County and surrounding community as more than just a place to climb. It has served as a welcoming gathering place for people of all ages and abilities to challenge themselves, build confidence, form lasting connections, and discover a lifelong passion for climbing.

Following a period of closure, Climb Nittany will reopen in Fall 2026 under new local ownership.
