Job Description

Job Description

Position Title: Surgical Aftercare Specialist (RN, LPN, MA, or EMT)

Job Type: Part-Time / Flexible Overnight Shift

About the Role

We are seeking empathetic, patient-centered healthcare professionals to provide dedicated, one-on-one overnight care for patients recovering from outpatient surgery. In this role, you will safely transport patients from the surgical center, manage their post-operative recovery protocol in a comfortable home or hotel setting, and accompany them to their 24-hour follow-up appointment the next day.

This position requires exceptional empathy, strong clinical observation skills, and a reassuring bedside manner to support patients when they feel most vulnerable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Transport: Safely pick up patients post-surgery from the surgical facility and transport them to their overnight accommodations. (Uber Health is provided)
  • Post-Operative Care: Administer post-op protocols, monitor vital signs, assist with pain management, change dressings, and assist with mobility/hygiene as prescribed.
  • Overnight Monitoring: Provide constant observation, reassurance, and physical assistance throughout the night to ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Documentation & Communication: Maintain clear recovery logs and promptly report any unexpected complications or changes in condition.
  • Follow-Up Care: Transport and accompany the patient to their mandatory 24-hour post-operative appointment the following morning.

Shift Details & Schedule

  • Hours: Variable overnight shifts. Start and end times depend on surgical scheduling (picking up a first-case vs. second-case patient).
  • Flexibility to handle varying shift lengths and start times is required.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Credentials: Active license/certification as an RN, LPN, Medical Assistant (MA), or EMT in good standing.
  • Experience: Prior experience in post-anesthesia, surgical recovery, emergency medicine, or home healthcare strongly preferred.
  • Attributes: High emotional intelligence, deep patience, and an exceptionally caring, supportive attitude.
  • Requirements: Valid driver’s license, and current CPR/BLS certification.
