The Paraprofessional provides direct support to children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in home, community, and program settings. This role focuses on promoting independence, communication, social skills, emotional regulation, and daily living skills while ensuring safety, dignity, and respect for every individual served.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide oneonone or smallgroup support to individuals with autism in home, school, or community environments.
- Assist with implementing individualized treatment plans, behavioral strategies, and skillbuilding activities created by clinical staff.
- Support clients with daily living skills such as hygiene, meal preparation, organization, and routines.
- Encourage appropriate social interactions, communication, and coping skills.
- Use positive reinforcement, modeling, and structured teaching techniques to support learning.
- Document daily progress notes, behaviors, and activities according to agency standards.
- Maintain a safe, supportive environment and follow all crisis prevention and intervention procedures.
- Collaborate with families, caregivers, teachers, and clinical team members to ensure consistent support.
- Assist clients during community outings, appointments, recreational activities, and skillbuilding opportunities.
- Uphold confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical standards at all times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, or behavioral needs strongly preferred.
- Ability to remain patient, calm, and supportive in challenging situations.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow structured plans and instructions.
- Must pass background check and meet all state requirements.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
