Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team. This role is essential in providing support to individuals living with intellectual disabilities and autism, ensuring their well-being, and promoting their independence in a community living arrangement setting. The ideal candidate will have experience in care, particularly with individuals requiring assistance due to developmental disabilities or autism. A commitment to respecting resident rights and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations is crucial.

Duties

  • Provide daily living assistance to residents, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
  • Accompany individuals to appointments and or community engagements.
  • Support residents in engaging in social and recreational activities that enhance their quality of life.
  • Observe and document residents’ behaviors and progress, reporting any significant changes to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for all residents, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Educate residents about their rights and responsibilities while fostering an atmosphere of respect and dignity.
  • Assist in implementing individualized care plans tailored to each resident’s needs.
  • Collaborate with social workers, healthcare providers, and family members to ensure comprehensive support for residents.
  • Complete all trainings and documentation by required deadlines.

Skills

  • Experience working in a Community Living Arrangement or similar environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Autism and Intellectual Disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understanding of resident rights and the importance of patient observation.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also being self-motivated.
  • Basic cleaning skills to maintain a hygienic living space for residents.
  • Passion for assisting individuals with disabilities and promoting their independence.
