Physical Therapist Assistant

SUMMARY:The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) at BoldAge PACE works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to deliver high-quality patient care and support the interdisciplinary team. Responsibilities include based on individual state scope of practice- implementing and modifying treatment plans, educating participants and their families, maintaining accurate documentation, and managing a caseload. The PTA actively participates in patient conferences, agency in-services, and quality improvement initiatives. Additional duties involve assisting with student and intern supervision of a Physical Therapy Assistant, scheduling, and contributing to discipline-specific projects such as chart audits and peer reviews. This role is integral to providing direct, person-centered care that aligns with BoldAge PACE’s mission and values.

ESSESNTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement physical therapy treatment plans under the supervision of a physical therapist.
  • Assist patients with exercises, mobility training, and therapeutic interventions such as heat, cold, or electrical stimulation.
  • Monitor participantperformance, adjust treatments within scope, and communicate progress or challenges to the supervising physical therapist.
  • Teach participants to use assistive devices and educate them and their families on home exercises, safety, injury prevention, and post-treatment care to empower independence.
  • Document therapy sessions, outcomes, and report changes in participant condition or adverse reactions.
  • Maintain therapy equipment, ensure a clean and safe environment, and adhere to safety protocols and infection control procedures.
  • Contribute to treatment plan adjustments, participate in staff meetings, and assist with equipment and supply management.
  • Provide support with participant transfers.
  • Act within the legal scope of practice and uphold ethical and professional care standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and the minimum state required liability auto insurance.
  • Be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up to date before engaging in direct participant contact.
  • Pass a comprehensive criminal background check that may include, but is not limited to, federal and state Medicare/Medicaid exclusion lists, criminal history, education verification, license verification, reference check, and drug screen.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate of Arts Degree from a Physical Therapy Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation on Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)
  • Current state license, or eligibility for licensure
  • One year’s experience as a PTA preferred
  • 1 year of experience working with a frail or elderly population preferred. If this is not present, training will be provided upon hiring.

  • Deliver participant-centered therapy treatments under supervision, prioritizing care and demonstrating a People First philosophy.
  • Maintain accurate, compliant medical records and manage caseloads efficiently while exceeding care expectations.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with therapy equipment and EHR systems to ensure effective and smooth care delivery.
  • Build rapport to motivate participants, ensuring a safe and supportive therapy environment.
  • Mentor students or interns, fostering professional growth aligned with BoldAge PACE values.
  • Follow treatment plans precisely, ensuring compliance with regulations, and travel as required.
