Position Summary
Completes initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions, and develops individual plan of care for patients assigned to the unit.
Accurately administers medications and performs procedures that cannot be delegated.
Manages induction of labor and cervical ripening.
Performs fetal heart monitoring.
Manages pregnancy-caused hypertension.
Participates in emergency drug administration.
Assesses condition of the newborn, including gestational exam.
Recognizes and manages neonatal sepsis.
Performs gavage feeding if required.
Monitors thermal regulation of the newborn.
Teaches and supervises the proper performance of nursing acts that have been delegated to others and monitors nursing care of other health care team members.
Understands and adheres to JCAHO standards as they apply to the nursing profession.
Participates in specific patient quality assessment activities, including chart review.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) is preferred.
Certifications/Licenses
Effective oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of appropriate equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective patient outcomes. Detail oriented, with ability to prioritize and multitask. Ability to apply sound judgment with clinical skills for optimal patient care. Demonstrates flexibility by accepting and supporting changes in work assignments as related to department and patient needs.
