The Transport Respiratory Therapist shall be able to perform all duties stated in Respiratory Therapist job description. Provide care to infants from birth to pediatric patients prior to their 18th birthday, or older if they have a medical/surgical problem, followed or treated by a pediatric specialist. Provide total patient care during inter-hospital transports. Initiate emergency protocols independently following PALS and NRP guidelines. Collaborate with the Medical Control Physician, Transport RN, and referral staff to develop an individualized plan of care for the patient. Facilitate the transfer of patient care from the transport environment to the accepting unit or area.
In addition, the role of the Transport Respiratory Therapist is to assist the Transport RN in total patient care in conjunction with fellow team members during inter-hospital transport.
Responsible for assessment and stabilization of transport patients.
Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
Provides care to infants from birth to pediatric patients prior to their 18th birthday, or older if they have a medical/surgical problem, followed or treated by a pediatric specialist.
Performs delegated medical functions within the parameters of the transport guidelines and under the supervision of the Medical Control Physician.
Initiates emergency protocols independently following PALS and NRP guidelines.
Collaborates with the Transport RN, Medical Control Physician and referral staff to develop an individualized plan of care for the patient.
Assists the RN in facilitating the transfer of patient care from the transport environment to the accepting unit or area.
Skills Required
Current PICU and/or NICU experience required
Successful completion of an individualized Transport Team orientation with all transports reviewed for first 3 months.
Successfully perform specific advanced skills, provide direct patient care, assess and stabilize, provide resuscitation measures and operate transport equipment.
Must be able to care for neonate through adolescent patients with care into the adult population as needed.
Requires full understanding and ability to utilize the Respiratory Care process.
Requires knowledge, ability and judgment necessary to:
Exercise judgment within the guidelines of the medical plan of care, department policy and licensure practice acts.
Must possess knowledge of Respiratory therapeutics and the correlation of diagnostic assessment.
Apply scientific knowledge; use a variety of respiratory equipment and perform multiple technical procedures.
Make discriminating observation.
Must be capable of performing CPR without limitation and respond to all emergent situations to manage patient.
