Position Summary:

Senior Manager of Retail Licensing and Compliance will be responsible for overseeing the Company’s retail licensing and compliance functions to ensure that retail stores timely receive all required federal, state, and local retail licenses. In addition, the Senior Manager of Retail Licensing and Compliance will establish and oversee compliance initiatives related to the Company’s retail business (including alcohol, tobacco, foodservice, and lottery).

Responsibilities:

1. Directly supervise a Retail Licensing Supervisor and a Senior Compliance Specialist and indirectly supervise a team of Retail Licensing Coordinators.

2. Oversee the establishment and maintenance of departmental requirements such as standard operating procedures, licensing software integrations, and compliance tracking.

3. Assist cross-functional groups, including Marketing, Real Estate, and Construction, in connection with special projects related to acquisitions, divestments, and expanded store offerings.

4. Communicate with government agencies as needed to assist in the resolution of licensing and compliance matters.

5. Work closely with internal and external legal advisors on an as-needed basis.

6. Must have a strong understanding of the process for obtaining and renewing retail licenses required in the convenience store industry.

7. Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and call out areas for improvement.

8. Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with the flexibility to reprioritize tasks as needed to accommodate the needs of the business.

9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, flexible mindset, and attention to detail required.

10. Must be able to work within a small team but also must be self-motivated to work independently.

Working Relationships:

Federal, state, and local agencies including Boards of Health, Revenue Departments, Liquor Agencies, Licensing Boards, Fire Departments, Regional Managers, District Managers, Store Managers, Construction Project Managers, Tax Dept, Accounts Payable, Real Estate, Sales Marketing, and others.


Minimum Education:

  • Must have an associate or bachelor’s degree

Minimum Experience:

  • Must have 7+ years of experience with retail licensing and compliance as well as experience supervising/managing a team.
  • A positive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization.
  • working knowledge of licensing software (“License HQ” or similar web-based software system).

Hours & Conditions: Must be able to work in person at corporate headquarters, with potential of 1 day work from home option

Physical Requirements:Minimal physical effort required, sitting / standing at computer for long periods of time. Ability to maneuver and lift up to 10 lbs. Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
