Objective of Position: Increase quality, productivity, and efficiency of the BVNA Technical Center, facilitate integration of all relevant corporate business lines through cooperation with Sales, Engineering, and other management, increase volume and scope of work pertaining to managed accounts, and differentiate the Technical Center’s work product in the minds of our clients. Develop and mentor all Engineering staff in the TC. Define staffing needs for department and provide business development support for key accounts. Work with VP of Industry to prepare and track top line budget forecast and implement tactical requirements to meet projections.

 

THE ROLE: The Technical Center Director will serve as the profit and loss manager of this business unit.  This role requires a high achiever who will set the standard for others to follow by sweating the details, carefully controlling costs, and effectively delivering value to their clients. To succeed this person must motivate and grow a strong team of committed engineers, consultants and inspectors who will meticulously execute standardized business practices to achieve operational excellence.

 

The best fitted individual would be a tough-minded operational leader with the innate ability to manage people and processes with focus, clarity and directness. An individual with the confidence to personally roll up his or her sleeves and manage a client or work with team members to ensure they understand the expectations of the organization.

This individual will orchestrate a process that ensures that every project is completed profitably, timely and to the satisfaction of the client.

 

Along with a strong technical engineering background, this role requires some significant financial savvy and an ability to decipher the meaning of corporate metrics.  BVNA generates numerous weekly, monthly and quarterly reports, and it is this individual’s responsibility to review, digest and act upon such material in a timely and effective manner. Such activities may be 30% of the individual’s personal activity. Operational effectiveness is extremely important in this business. Additionally, it will be useful if this person has a strategic mindset to take advantage of opportunities as they arise, whether they are related to employees, customers or acquisition targets.

 

The Technical Center Director of Operations will need to identify and correct any leakage in client billings, unbilled changes to a projects scope, and other efficiency losses in the business.  Training and leadership go hand in hand at Bureau Veritas, so it will also be a function of this role to effectively explain to others in the practice group why it is imperative for the entire team to comply with organizational mandates.

 

This includes the importance of corporate standards, reporting procedures and other business practices. The Technical Center Director of Operations will be challenged to ensure the TC Service Line Managers are accountable for their budget numbers without sacrificing service to the clients. 


The Technical Center Manager will:

  • Meet all requirements listed in the Job Description for Engineer 
  • Assist with the preparation and have responsibility of the P&L budget for the  Technical Center as a Profit Center
  • Manage the Engineer workforce, including task distribution, evaluation and follow-up
  • Support the Sales force in the development of new services
  • Be the focal point of contact for the North America TC Network
  • Execute any other tasks as requested by the VP of Industry

 

Quality System Management Requirements:

The Technical Center Manager will:

  • Be responsible for maintaining and improving software and control databases associated to  the technical center services
  • Oversee the management of all manufacturing service agreements (MSA) for the Houston TC
  • Oversee overall quality of the TC deliverables, including reports, certificates, letters etc.
  • Ensure that any TC services are performed only by competent engineers
  • Ensure that adequate training is provided as necessary
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the training
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

The Technical Center Manager should have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, in accordance with the specific requirements of the work
  • Minimum 10 years in related and progressive positions

 

Initial Training Requirements:

  • Quality Assurance System – Specific Instructions Applicable to O&G Houston
  • Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and ATEX

 

Additional Requirements (optional):

  • Technical competency to perform one or more services provided by the TC
  • Maintain a current Professional Engineering registration (PE) (strongly desired)
