Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast is in search of a Controller. In this role the Controller will direct technical financial activities of the organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for timely completion of monthly financial statement closing process including monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, income statement analysis and budget to actual analysis for all companies.
  • Works with supervisor to continually assess accounting department skill sets and job responsibilities to ensure staff is able to carry out technical accounting duties.
  • Maintain cross-training program within the accounting department.
  • Continually refine policies, procedures and controls to ensure accuracy of the data input into the financial statements.
  • Assist in the development, documentation and communication of policies, procedures and control points for all aspects of financial accounting and reporting.
  • Ensure that recurring journal entries are recorded timely.
  • Maintain allocation and amortization schedules per company policy.
  • Reconcile fundraising receipts as recorded to the general ledger to fundraising receipts recorded to our fundraising software system.
  • Record research revenue and reconcile research AR.
  • Oversee AP weekly check run, ensuring that transactions are recorded to the appropriate GL codes and subaccounts and vendors are paid per approved terms.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of overall operations and activities in order to provide timely, meaningful reviews of organization's financial results and progress in its various programs and activities.
  • Maintain active communication throughout the organization in order to stay abreast of activities impacting the fiscal department and to ensure that necessary personnel throughout the organization are receiving timely, accurate, useful information from the fiscal department.
  • Actively participate in budget preparation and monitoring budget to actual performance on a monthly basis.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements, tax returns and other reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare HIV monthly vouchers and quarterly Financial Status Reports (FSRs).
  • Monitor supplies to ensure that inventory adequately supports medical services. Concurrently, work with medical services department to prevent excess inventories.
  • Communicate to all levels of management inventory exceptions such as overstock, and inventory losses.
  • Recommend and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Prepare and submit appropriate data/reports to Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) in a timely manner.
    Coordination with supervisor and external auditors to prepare materials required for the annual audit and required tax filings.
    Participate on various special project task forces, as necessary, to provide accounting input and ensure proper coordination with Fiscal.
  • 3 plus years relevant hands on experience in complex accounting environment with the ability to generate multi-company financial reporting and analysis
