  • Analyzes computer networks for security purposes using a variety of network analysis and security monitoring tools; responds to incidents; develops and evaluates security tools.

  • Analyzes log and network data collections.

  • Conducts research on security policy; consults with University customers on security related matters; keeps up with information-security related announcements (bugtraq, vendor advisories, etc.).

  • Responds to reported machine compromises; maintains appropriate documentation during investigations; investigates reported security incidents; maintains documentation; and writes technical documents and advisories (security advisories).

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Knowledge of intermediate troubleshooting, client relations, and the Information Technology Interface Library (ITIL).

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and TAMHSC guidelines.


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Two years of security analysis experience.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA Regulations, FERPA, DMCA, GLBA, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and State of Texas Information Technology Rules and Codes and the Information Technology Interface Library (ITIL).

  • Experience with development and operation of security tools and familiarity with security policy concepts.
