JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Overview

This position will ensure the development & improvements of new / existing products, technologies, processes for the Global Formaldehyde Business growth initiatives and provide technical support for core business customers and manufacturing; As required, the team will support existing Americas Resins Business Growth Initiatives. The incumbent will lead a team of creative diverse technical professionals to deliver such developments and improvements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Working with the Director of Global Business Development, Global Formaldehyde VP  & VP, Strategy and Market Development to lead efforts to identify new market opportunities, or significantly expanded market opportunities that enhance HCHO, and Hexion profitable growth goals.
  • Responsible for the adaptation of existing technology / processes or the development of new technology / processes to capture profitable market growth
  • Generates new technology, products and/or process options, investigates these in support of selected growth initiatives and proposes these to the businesses
  • Provides Technology input to business strategies
  • Ensures  core Global Formaldehyde Business technical support to customers and manufacturing
  • Accountable for all process technology efforts undertaken within, and services provided by, the team with close view on overall professionalism and quality
  • Dependable, but independent, partner for business leadership and in fields of strength for global leadership

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph. D Degree in Chemistry / Chemical Engineering
  • 7-10 or more years of experience in process knowledge, research & development, propelling growth through new technology development and commercialization.
  • 3-5 years experience in organic synthesis
  • Demonstrated skills/experience in leadership, driving entrepreneurial teams. Minimum 1-3 years experience leading team(s) of diverse creative professionals with full direct people responsibility and demonstrable track of having dealt with most of HR aspects in such roles
  • Experience with batch and/or continuous processing of specialty chemicals e.g polymers, plant nutrition, etc.
  • Experience in wet chemistry, chemical synthesis, lab work. Running customer trials is essential.
  • Experience in formaldehyde and derivatives chemistry and operations considered an advantage
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience and training.
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior exposure and ability to learn budget development and management as well as P&L understanding.
  • Group facilitation understanding with basic QFD, process mapping, prioritization setting tools.
  • Ability to learn and apply Six Sigma problem-solving tools.
  • Demonstrated customer-facing experience.
  • Demonstrated success in working in a matrix environment.
  • Experience with matrix management of R&D and Operational resources.


Education Requirements

  • Ph. D in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Related background considered in cases where broad industry experience exists.
