Works within Information Services to perform advanced data analysis including statistical inferencing, data mining, machine learning, and project management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Meets with business users to articulate the problem definition and gather project requirements
  • Maintain ownership of the project throughout the lifecycle
  • Engages in project management and handles multiple projects concurrently
  • Create and maintain data pipelines and models and track data model performance
  • Recognize when a data model has been overfitted and take corrective action
  • Recognize when business requirements have changed on a production model and take corrective action
  • Solve data problems by building data models that use optimization, simulation, regression, time-series, clustering, or classification techniques
  • Examine data to identify trends, outliers, spikes, and noise
  • Perform data cleansing and normalization to account for seasonality, magnitude, and noise
  • Work with structured, semi-structured and unstructured data sets
  • Mentor junior analysts
  • Leverage open source libraries in available software packages
  • Keep current with the latest developments in Machine Learning, Data Mining and Artificial Intelligence
  • Determine frequency distribution for variables: Gaussian, Poisson, uniform, etc.
  • Build visualizations of analysis such as histograms, covariance matrices, and heat maps
  • Develops SQL Queries to be used by the Data Warehouse and/or other relational databases
  • Provides support for production applications
  • Follows Standard Operating Procedures when carrying out position responsibilities
  • Attends and participates in team meetings, training sessions, and company-sponsored programs as required
  • Responds promptly to all emails or calls, by returning all emails and calls within a reasonable amount of time
  • When an answer to a problem cannot be provided immediately, responds to the caller by giving a specific time when a call can be expected to resolve the issue, and does the follow-up to meet that commitment

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience with querying large datasets via SQL
  • Experience with a data language like JSON or XML
  • Experience with statistical languages like Python or R
  • Experience with shell batch scripts
  • Experience with Forecasting techniques such as Regression or Time Series
  • Experience with Classification and Clustering techniques using Random Forest, Neural Networks or Bayesian Learning
  • Experience with toolkits such as TensorFlow, Jupyter, SPSS, or Stata
  • Five years of data science experience (additional education may be substituted for experience)
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to utilize strong multi-tasking, organizational, prioritization, and follow-up skills necessary for managing multiple systems issues and projects at one time in a professional manner, both under minimal supervision as well as in a team environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience with reporting applications such as Cognos, Business Objects and Tableau
  • Certifications in data science such as Certified Analytics Professional (CAP)
  • Familiarity with Optimization techniques such as Deterministic Operations Research
  • Familiarity with Simulation techniques such Monte Carlo and Markov
  • Familiarity with Data Mining and Statistical techniques such as (M)ANOVA, T- Tests, Z-Score, MSE
  • Familiarity working with data sets 3 – 4 TB in size
  • Familiarity with developing solutions to operate under Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS, and Linux flavors
  • Seven years of data science experience (additional education may be substituted for experience)

WORK AVAILABILITY

  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined by management
  • Must be regularly available and willing to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week or such other hours per day or hours per week as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs
  • Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs
  • This position will provide on call support for after-hours service on a rotating basis and adhere to the McCoy on-call coverage guidelines
