The primary purpose of the Dispensing Pharmacy Technician is to provide support services in preparing, packaging, and dispensing pharmaceuticals.? 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists the pharmacist in preparing and dispensing prescription orders
  • Performs all pharmacy duties, to include but not limited to, accurately refill previous orders, dispense medications, and maintain pharmacy records
  • Possesses thorough understanding of medications
  • Ability to read and understand prescriber orders for compounded medications
  • Labels and fills prescription bottles with prescribed medications
  • Checks pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory levels; anticipates needed medications and supplies; places and expedites orders; removes outdated drugs; puts away drugs throughout the day in an orderly manner to assure area is organized
  • Maintains production standards and levels
  • Performs other work-related duties as deemed appropriate by pharmacist on duty

Experience and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be willing to register with Texas Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician or Trainee
  • No less than one year of pharmacy experience or healthcare related experience preferred
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
