Purpose of Position:

  • A Diesel mechanic is responsible for providing daily inspection, diagnostic, and repair services to Gulf Wind's fleet of yard mule trucks.

This can include: cleaning, diagnostics, maintenance, audible/visual inspections, and removal of parts and/or attachments.

Installation with the help of proper manuals, writing disassembly assembly parts reuse evaluation and reconditioning.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following.

  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate by Senior Management.
  • Perform systematic and thorough inspections of all mule trucks engines and components.
  • Preventive maintenance and repair of DOT legal yard mule trucks, not limited to but including: install injectors, pistons, liners, cam shafts, cylinder heads, selective catalytic reduction, rod and main bearings, oil pans, clutches, fans, hubs, differentials, fifth wheels, brakes, change or recharge batteries, and replace transmissions & other parts.
  • Communicating status of equipment through various channels.
  • Negotiate vendor rates in Safety System
  • Perform parts reuse evaluation and reconditioning.
  • Attend training classes and keep abreast of factory technical bulletins.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with warehousing management, mule operators, and part vendors.

In 1997, the Houston Trucking division opens with 5 trucks and by 1998 Gulf Winds opened its 2nd warehouse facility. By 2012 Gulf Winds opened its 7th warehouse. Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Fundamental knowledge of diesel engines, including DEF systems

  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical wiring in commercial vehicles
  • Practiced in torch cutting and welding (MIG & ARC) operations
  • Working practice of best work and safety practices (OSHA, TIA, GWI Policy, etc.)
  • Basic Microsoft Office Knowledge

Minimum qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or GED preferred
  • Class A CDL drivers license preferred
  • Clean MVR preferred
