SUMMARY
Assists the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing,
evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of nursing services, in accordance with
current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the facility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each
essential function listed below:
• Directly manages all monthly risk management, quality improvement (CQI) and
infection control meetings, documentation, and in-services for facility.
• Assists the Director of Nursing in determining the staffing needs of the nursing
services department.
• Responsible for rotating all on-call schedules.
• Fills in as floor nurse as needed.
• Makes daily rounds of the nursing service departments to ensure that all nursing
service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with
acceptable nursing standards. Reports any findings to Director of Nursing.
• Assists the Director of Nursing in the development of in-service training
programs for the nursing staff.
• Ensures that training programs meet the continuing education requirements which
allow licensed personnel to keep their licenses in an active status.
• May manage all Minimum Data Set (MDS) reports in compliance with state
regulations.
• Serves as a positive role model for all staff, service providers and the community
at large.
• Performs other related duties and activities as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manages assigned personnel. Completes performance evaluations, orientation,
and training. Makes decisions on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary
changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves employee
problems within position responsibilities.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills required by the Job
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities
required to perform the job:
Education and Experience:
• LPN/LVNs must complete a high school diploma and nursing vocational
program. RNs must have an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Three years’ experience working with people with developmental disabilities
preferred
• An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides
proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the
above education and experience requirements.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
• Current LPN/LVN licensure or RN licensure.
• Additional certificates/licenses as required by the state.
Blood Borne Pathogen Category:
• Job requires performance of duties that involve potential for exposure to blood,
body fluids, or tissues. Tasks that do involve exposure are an expectation of
employment.

Physical Requirements:
• Medium Work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30
pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move
objects.
